Counseling

Our view of therapy

“ If you had appendicitis, God would expect you to seek a priesthood blessing and get the medical care available. So, too with emotional disorders. Our Father in Heaven expects us to use all of the marvelous gifts He has provided in this glorious dispensation.”

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Purpose statement

We support members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in their pursuit of healing, restoration, and happiness. We believe that counseling can support individuals on the covenant path, helping them exercise agency, develop greater self-reliance, and move forward with clarity, strength, and alignment with their faith.

Mission statement

Our mission is to provide clinically excellent, trauma-informed psychotherapy that thoughtfully integrates the beliefs and values of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We support individuals, couples, and families in navigating life’s challenges with both professional expertise and respect for their spiritual framework and religious beliefs.

Counseling

Counseling & self-reliance

“The Lord does help when we go to Him in times of need, especially when we are committed to His work and respond to His will. But the Lord only helps those who are willing to help themselves. He expects His children to be self-reliant to the degree they can be.”
-Elder L. Tom Perry

We believe that God wants us to be self-reliant in all domains of life, which is a balance between trusting in God and using the resources He has provided us. Developing self-reliance increases our capability to serve others, creates resilience for handling life’s challenges, and fosters a sense of stability that allows us greater freedom to make choices that are informed by our faith. No matter what an individual’s, couple's, or family's goals for therapy are, there is a foundational understanding at Aligned Path Counseling that counseling helps everyone move towards greater self-reliance.

Counseling & atonement

“Dear brothers and sisters, Jesus Christ extends that same invitation to you today. I plead with you to come unto Him so that He can heal you! He will heal you from sin as you repent. He will heal you from sadness and fear. He will heal you from the wounds of this world.”- President Russell M. Nelson

“He [Jesus] didn’t just suffer for our sins. He suffered for our pains, our inadequacies, including our depression and anxieties. He’s felt it all.” -President Dallin H. Oaks

We believe that Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice gives us hope that all that is broken has the opportunity to be resurrected and redeemed. Jesus Christ stands in our place and assumes the burdens of this, allowing us to be reconciled to God and experience His presence. At Aligned Path Counseling, we seek to help clients reconnect with the unconditional redemption that Jesus Christ offers us, hold themselves accountable for the ways they must exercise their faith, and to experience the magnificent ways in which Jesus Christ continues to work for us.
